Lee Academy offers an outstanding 'Summer X' program designed to enrich and engage children during the summer break. Extension, exploration, excitement and exchange are the founding principles of our 'Summer X' program!
GLOBAL CONNECTIONS is a one of a kind opportunity for students in Grade 6 or higher to learn about and travel to a region of the world to experience its culture, history and language as part of an exchange or outreach trip. Past trips have included a 10-day outreach trip France, a Canadian exchange with students in the Northwest Territories, a trip to our partner schools and a safari in Kenya and a trip to Peru. The excursions included building a community staircase in Lima, hiking at Machu Pichu and repainting an orphanage. The group also fundraised to purchase new physiotherapy equipment and a trampoline for the orphanage. We have taken a recent group on a Quebec City homestay and in June/July, 2019, we returned to Kenya!
What is the Global Connections Programme?
Global Connections participants (12 maximum) study a different destination each summer, travel to another part of Canada or the world for a 7 to 18 day stay (chaperoned by the director) and return for Summer “X” organized activities with a student exchange partner if possible. This year, we are pleased to offer a Canadian exchange experience. We are waiting to hear from our "Experiences Canada" partners on our destination.
Where has the school travelled in the past?
Over the past several years, participants have travelled to France, Kenya, the Northwest Territories, Quebec and Peru.
Who is eligible for the programme?
Only students entering Grades 6-12 and enrolled in university but who have graduated from Lee Academy will be considered. If more students apply than there are spaces available, preference will be given to those who show the most responsibility and dedication in the Global Connections’ preparation process. All applicants must have filled out the Summer X application form, the Global Connections’ application and paid the fees to be registered.
What is the cost?
The final costs will be determined as the destination is finalized. Previous excursions have ranged from $2000 - $5500 per participant. The fees pay for the administration of the programme, registration, transportation, accommodation and meals as well as programs and tourist excursions.
